Oaklands Recreation Plaza

The Plaza was completed some time ago and now is a major drawcard for people who wish to play basketball, use skateboards, scooters or roller skates or to just ride a bike around the track.  There is a single Exceloo right next to the park.

A car park is available for direct access to this area.  Entry is off Oaklands Rd just adjacent to the Sturt River bridge.

Cycling & Walking

The Oaklands Estate is well served with access to two major cycle and walking tracks.

Along the western edge is the Sturt River Linear Park, a walking and bicycle track.  This track has been bituminised and upgraded.  It links Darlington to Glenelg. At Darlington it connects with the Patrick Onker Veloway and at Glenelg joins with the Coast Park trail.

The Marino Rocks Greenway bike track runs from Marion Road along Minchinbury Terrace and the south side of the Oaklands Estate Reserve before crossing the Sturt River.

Swimming

Adjacent to the Estate is the Marion Outdoor Pool, an open air heated pool complex that is open from October to April each year.   This centre is in Hendrie St and has been redeveloped with more water slides and under cover areas.

The SA Aquatic & Leisure Centre adjacent to Marion Shopping Centre is only about 5 minutes drive away.  Bookings are required due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Marion Leisure and Fitness Centre

Not far from the Estate is the Marion Leisure & Fitness Centre on Oaklands Road.   The centre provides a fully equipped gym with cardio, pin-loaded and free weights as well as Group Fitness classes, boxing and Stadium Sports.  Gymnastics for children is also available.
