Amenities

The Oaklands Estate has many local amenities that make life both convenient and comfortable.

Kindergarten

The Oaklands Estate Kindergarten is within the Estate on Pethick Terrace and has recently undergone a programme of re-development.

Schools

There are three State Primary schools not far from the Estate.  Ascot Park Primary School is to the north on Marion Road and Marion Primary School is across the train line, to the south and both are about a 15 minute walk.  Warradale Primary School is a little further, to the west of Morphett Road.

Hamilton Secondary School is only 10 minutes’ walk away on Marion Road.  It is recognised for its specialist programme, Space School.

A private school, Westminster School is immediately south of the railway line and has easy access via the pedestrian underpass at Marion Station. The school includes both secondary and primary schools as well as an early learning centre.

Shopping

The Park Holme Shopping Centre is on the north east corner of the area at the junction of Marion and Oaklands Roads and has a number of specialty shops with a Coles Supermarket as the focus.

This centre has completed a major re-development with many of the specialty stores being re-located and the Coles store being significantly enlarged.  Shops at the centre are:-

Marion Shopping Centre is only 10 minutes drive away.

In addition there are shops on Oaklands Road near the entrance to the Oaklands Wetlands opposite the Marion Outdoor Pool.  It has a clothing repair shop, a hairdresser and a popular Indian restaurant, Delhi Spice

Churches

There is one church in the Estate:

The New Church is at 287 Oaklands Road.

Note: Community of Christ at 18 Chambers Street has been sold.

Transport

The Adelaide-Seaford railway line forms the southern boundary of the Estate with Marion Station within ten minutes walk from anywhere in the Estate.

The railway line was redeveloped a few years ago and now has a fully upgraded electric train services.  Access to the station is by underpass at the eastern end of the station.

The train timetable is available on the AdelaideMetro website.

TransAdelaide buses run along Oaklands Road and Hendrie Street, also within minutes walk from the Estate. These connect to Marion Shopping Centre and the City.

Parkland

There is a large expanse of parkland to the west of the Estate.  It is divided into 3 components.  Along Oaklands Road is the Recreation Plaza, leading into the Oaklands Wetlands and to the south is the Oaklands Estate Reserve.

The area has walking paths both sealed and gravel.

Recreation

Cycling

The Oaklands Estate is well served with access to two major cycle and walking tracks.

Along the western edge is the Sturt River Linear Park, a walking and bicycle track.  This track has been bituminised and upgraded.  It links Darlington to Glenelg. At Darlington it connects with the Patrick Onker Veloway and at Glenelg joins with the Coast Park trail.

Along the southern edge of the Estate is the Marino Rocks Greenways bike track.

Swimming

Adjacent to the Estate is the Marion Outdoor Pool, an open air heated pool complex that is open from October to April each year.   This centre is in Hendrie Street and has been re-developed with more water slides and under cover areas. 

The SA Aquatic & Leisure Centre adjacent to Marion Shopping Centre is only about 10 minutes drive away.  At present bookings are being taken for all centre use. 

Fitness

Not far from the Estate is the Marion Leisure & Fitness Centre.   The centre provides a fully equipped gym with cardio, pin-loaded and free weights as well as Group Fitness classes, boxing and Stadium Sports.  Gymnastics for children is also available.
